The Importance of Disposable Care Attire

Everyone involved in the care of others should be properly educated on the prevention of spreading diseases. It is highly expected of those providing care to carefully consider the well-being of others, this includes sourcing a reputable care home supplier.

Keeping Hands Clean

In order to minimise the risk of passing on infections it is essential that hands are cleaned in the correct way, that includes when any type of healthcare is carried out. 'Hand Hygiene' or 'Hand Decontamination' applied to anyone who is caring for you, from a patients perspective, you expect the best type of care so this applies to not only healthcare workers, but anyone looking after you. Here are some ways to prevent spreading infections through the use of your hands:

Removing all jewellery from the hands and arms, including watches.

Wearing short sleeved shirts or ones that are easily rolled up.

Keep fingernails short and clean and avoid nail varnish (even clear).

Cover up and cuts or minor wounds.

When To Clean?

  • Right before and after any healthcare activities.
  • After any contact with external surroundings that could cause hands to become contaminated.
  • If there has been contact with bodily fluids of any kind.
  • After the removal of protective gloves.

Protective Aprons

Healthcare workers should be properly trained when it comes to protective clothes. Most disposable care aprons will be categorised by colour, that way the risk and level of infection from the patient can be clearly identified. Disposable plastic aprons are extremely important when thinking about the exposure of infections, the risk of blood and body fluid splatter is high, therefore aprons should be worn to prevent that from spreading onto clothes and risk spreading infections and diseases. Most importantly, one-use aprons should be thrown away as soon as the care for one patient has been carried out, never use an aprons more than once. Other protective clothing may include safety glasses and nuisance masks, these are used in case there is a risk of splatter to the eyes and mouth.

Protective Gloves

Contamination of the hands can transmit infections such as influenza and salmonellae, so using protective gloves and washing your hands appropriately can prevent these types of infections from spreading.

Sleeve Covers

Contamination of an object by blood, excreta, or other body fluids can result in the passing of hepatitis and typhoid. Therefore, by wearing disposable hygiene clothing such as aprons sleeve-covers and shoe-covers can prevent from these types of contamination.

Face Masks

The air can also transmit diseases and infections just by simply coughing and sneezing. Therefore, by wearing protective face masks, the risk of those infections spreading will be kept to a minimal or no risk at all.
